THE LEVEL 2 DEADLINE OF APRIL 2016 FOR UK BUILDING INFORMATION MODELLING (BIM) PROJECTS IS LOOMING. DAVID GAWLEY FROM PENTAGON BIM CONSULTANTS EXPLAINS WHY YOU NEED TO ACT NOW…

The Building Information Modelling (BIM) deadline is real – April 2016 – so it is essential that companies involved in the construction industry engage now on their Building Information Modelling (Virtual Construction) adoption plans – they cannot afford to miss out.

The reality is that Building Information Modelling (BIM) has the potential for your company to unlock more efficient ways of collaborative working and will offer better value to your customers (both public and private).

But you cannot buy BIM out of a box, and the truth is you may require to make a technology investment. But BIM is much more than just technology – it is a new way of working, so you will need to invest in more than just buying computer programs.

It is not enough for a client to request a project to be Level 2 (L2) compliant and simply refer to the standard documentation or protocols. An organisation must fully understand the key elements, roles and how Building Information Modelling (BIM) should be encompassed within their organisation, particularly on project completion and transition to operations and maintenance.
The client needs to compile an Employers Information Requirements (EIRs) document and, most importantly, understand it to ensure it is fully applicable to their needs.
Pentagon BIM Consultants can assess and scope out this requirement in order to ensure your requirements are included at each detailed level.

RISK

Clients face a huge risk of receiving information, data and models that they do not understand how to integrate into their existing systems and infrastructure. At the handover stage, this data could simply be lost or misinterpreted.

AEC practices may state they are BIM ready and have an urgency to complete questionnaires for tenders when they are not in a position to deliver.

Pentagon BIM Consultants can assess and scope out the requirements for a company to become ready for BIM changes and put a plan in place. We execute BIM scoping and adoption plans to prevent your business from having to wade through the protocols and to ensure your organisation becomes operational to Level 2.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) Implementation is real and is now! The team of experienced BIM Consultants at Pentagon can act as a single source, across the full supply chain, for your Virtual Construction/BIM needs, providing BIM advice and consultancy services including BIM GAP Analysis; BIM Implementation and Adoption Plans; advice on Employer Information Requirements (EIRs); BIM Authoring Software and Training; BIM Project Kick-off Services; and Consultative COBie specifications and integration.
